FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Jan. 30, 2023) — Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), today announced the addition of five facilities to its list of
zero-waste-to-landfill (ZWTL) operations. Starting in December 2022, sustainability teams at these locations across the U.S. began reporting that their monthslong initiatives aimed at reducing, reusing and recycling waste materials have brought their facilities into compliance with widely accepted ZWTL standards.

The newly designated ZWTL facilities include four distribution centers operated by Mercury subsidiary Land ‘N’ Sea and another distribution center on the Mercury world-headquarters campus in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The facilities are:

Land ‘N’ Sea in Eagan, MN

Land ‘N’ Sea in Fresno, CA

Land ‘N’ Sea in Kent, WA

Land ‘N’ Sea in Pompano Beach, FL

Mercury Plant 15L in Fond du Lac, WI

Mercury previously designated three other distribution centers — a Land ‘N’ Sea facility in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and Mercury distribution centers in Fond du Lac and Petit-Rechain, Belgium — as zero‑waste‑to‑landfill operations. Additionally, the company in November named its factory in Florida that makes electrical and plastic components as its first manufacturing facility to earn the ZWTL distinction.

“Kudos go to our Land ‘N’ Sea teams of individuals who, in addition to performing their operational duties, took on the challenge of making their respective distribution centers even more environmentally friendly,” said Mike Conners, Land ‘N’ Sea president. “Although each team benefited from the knowledge gained from previous Mercury zero-waste efforts, and the targeted standards remained consistent, nonetheless there was considerable variation from one facility to the next regarding the nature of the challenges and the requirements of solutions. Every team had to be creative and resourceful in finding answers.”

Conners noted that five of LNS’s 13 distribution centers now have achieved ZWTL status. He and his teams will work throughout 2023 toward a goal of significantly growing that list.

Each of the Land ‘N’ Sea facilities plays an important role in wholesale distribution of parts and accessories to the marine and RV industries. Shipment destinations include dealers, repair shops, retail outlets and e-commerce vendors.

Andrew Bores, manager of materials control at Mercury Plant 15L, emphasized the value of employees’ ongoing vigilance. “The importance of the human element of our

zero-waste-to-landfill efforts can’t be overstated. We deal with so many varieties of materials, and each employee must keep track of how to handle them. For example, there are numerous and diverse types of plastics and cardboard — each of which may require different handling in our zero-waste procedures. We’re counting on employees’ attention and dedication to keep these processes working,” he said, adding that ongoing education and conspicuous signage will help to reinforce the guidance.

Mercury Plant 15L serves as the primary launching point for distribution of Mercury engines and other finished products to the company’s global network of dealerships, distributors and boat manufacturers. Plus, the location collects various incoming parts, components and materials from around the world that are subsequently distributed to Mercury manufacturing operations as needed.

The waste streams addressed in all these operations’ ZWTL initiatives include cardboard, paper, plastic, metal, wood and other materials.

For ongoing compliance with the required standards, Mercury has empowered teams at each of its ZWTL locations to develop sound methodology for continual monitoring. The teams regularly measure waste-stream materials generated from operations and the amount of those materials moved into the proper channels of reuse and recycling.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 04, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), today introduced the Mercury® Avator™ 7.5e electric outboard at the Consumer Electronics Show® 2023 in Las Vegas. Avator is Mercury’s next step forward in marine innovation and the 7.5e model is the first in a series of electric outboard products to be released in 2023 as Mercury advances on its commitment to be the leader in electrified propulsion. Mercury also plans to display concepts for its Avator 20e and 35e outboards, which will be in market later in 2023.

“We are excited to formally introduce the Avator 7.5e electric outboard to the world,” said Chris Drees, Mercury Marine president. “As the innovation leader in the marine industry, both in internal combustion products and now electric propulsion, we have the resources and knowledge to make boating more accessible to more people, while building on our commitment to sustainability. The Avator program is helping us do this in new and exciting ways.”

The Avator 7.5e outboard generates 750W of power at the prop shaft and produces similar speed and acceleration as a Mercury 3.5hp FourStroke outboard. Offered with tiller or remote steering, it’s ideal for powering many small boats, including tenders, jon boats, rigid inflatables and kayaks.

“The Avator 7.5e is much more than just an outboard,” said Tim Reid, Mercury Marine vice president of product development and engineering. “We created an entire propulsion system, fully integrated from the advanced controls, props and digital gauges to an all-new mobile app. Every aspect was designed with the same attention to quality, durability and reliability as all Mercury products. We’re confident the Avator 7.5e outboard will deliver a superior boating experience for boaters interested in powering small vessels with electric propulsion.”

Ease of Use
The Avator 7.5e electric outboard delivers clean, quiet power with innovative features that make it simple for boaters to enjoy the water. Swappable batteries, a quick-connect mounting system and intuitive controls make setup and operation easy. A vivid full-color display tracks battery level and range, for confidently exploring the water.

Batteries and Chargers
With its high-efficiency design and advanced lithium-ion battery system, the Avator 7.5e electric outboard is engineered to optimize range. The 1kWh lithium-ion battery was developed in partnership with the battery experts at Mastervolt and engineered exclusively for marine duty. It's a safe, reliable 48V power source that's been drop-tested and IP67 rated for water resistance.

Smart chargers constantly monitor voltage and current to deliver a safe, effective charge and can shut down to protect the battery if there is an issue. An intelligent digital display continuously tracks your current power status and estimated runtime.

Motor and Performance
Industry-first transverse flux motor technology delivers reliable, quiet power. The motor generates high torque with little effort, maximizing battery life and range while contributing to faster acceleration and more efficient overall performance than similar competitive products.

Commitment to Sustainability
The Avator program continues Mercury’s commitment across all product lines to redefine marine propulsion in ways that leave a positive impact on the environment. Avator outboards transform the boating experience by making boating possible with no exhaust fumes and zero direct emissions. Each electric outboard is also crafted with many components that are recyclable or reusable. Incredibly calm, quiet and smooth, the Avator 7.5e outboard helps boaters to fully immerse themselves in nature.

Connected Devices
The Avator 7.5e electric outboard is the first propulsion system from Mercury to be compatible with the all-new Mercury Marine app, available for iOS® and Android™ devices. Boaters can access the app for free to enjoy basic functionality, including a library of tutorials and the ability to connect with a preferred dealer for expert support. Adding a Mercury SmartCraft® Connect module to the outboard unlocks advanced features of the app. This includes a GPS map for planning your trips and visualized range estimates so you confidently explore. The app can also be used to track speed, battery level, outboard hours and system notifications. It provides the most complete set of performance data available for any electric outboard.

Learn more about Avator and Mercury’s vision for electrification at MercuryMarine.com/Avator.

About Mercury Marine
Headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mercury Marine® is the world’s leading manufacturer of recreational marine propulsion engines.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Nov. 18, 2022) — For the 12th consecutive year, Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE:BC), has earned a Green Masters designation from the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council (WSBC), placing the company among an elite group of organizations to have earned the honor as many times consecutively. In addition, Mercury President Chris Drees and Sustainability Manager Scott Louks each received awards for their exemplary leadership in sustainability.

WSBC recognized Drees and Louks for their leadership of sustainability efforts, noting that “the winners exhibit leadership, initiative and innovation and make measurable impacts across their businesses and the communities they serve.” Drees received the award for Sustainable Leadership – Executive, and WSBC honored Louks with its Sustainable Leadership – Champion award for his advocacy and consensus-building around sustainability initiatives at Mercury. Drees and Louks were among only three individuals to receive personal recognition in this year’s awards.

To win its 12th Green Masters designation, Mercury achieved a score within the top 20% of all applicants in a rigorous examination of the company’s sustainable business practices. Judges evaluated the applicants according to several categories of sustainability, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI); waste management and other forms of environmental stewardship; responsible use of energy and water; pursuit of humanitarian causes advancement of education; and leadership and consensus-building. They examined the advancement of these objectives in the contexts of transportation, supply chain management, workforce development, operations and other factors.

“Each successive Green Masters award is even more satisfying than the last,” said Drees. He emphasized the WSBC Green Masters Program’s evaluative methodology, which requires applicants to cite sustainable business practices and initiatives undertaken in the past year and to show improvement over previous years. “The WSBC’s approach requires applicants to build on successes year over year – there’s no resting on laurels. Mercury continues to set a new standard for sustainability within the marine industry and the state of Wisconsin.”

The company’s sustainability accomplishments in recent months include expanding its zero‑waste‑to‑landfill initiatives. Mercury also deepened its commitment to renewable energy, joining with Alliant Energy to launch a large-scale solar array project in its headquarters’ home county and investing in a virtual power purchase agreement with one of the largest suppliers of solar energy to the nation’s grid.

The company expanded its development of fuel-efficient marine engines and further refined its innovative concept for outboard propulsion that uses swappable and rechargeable batteries. Mercury will introduce products in its new electric-propulsion line to the market in the months ahead.

Mercury also expanded its contributions to worthy causes at both the corporate and grassroots levels. The employees’ annual food drives and electronics-recycling campaigns reached new highs. The company also introduced new employee-driven activities to advance the principles of DEI.
